To promote and recognise quality in, and concerning, heritage sites and historic properties to allow meaningful access and understanding for all.

Core Aims of the Trust

The Directors of the Heritage Education Trust are committed to realising the following aims:

To ensure that the Sandford Awards for Heritage Education continue to thrive, and to look for ways to further develop them in the future.
To promote widely, and thoroughly, the good practise that exists at Sandford Award holding sites.
To encourage the development and maintenance of standards of education at all levels at heritage sites and historic properties.

The Heritage Education Trust

is the only body in existence able to provide independent quality assurance to historic properties and heritage collections with delivered educational services.

has established definitive criteria for heritage education provision within the historic environment and associated collections, which covers students in statutory education.

has a robust partnership with Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln, which with its own record of excellence and unique graduate and post graduate course in Heritage Education, is ideally suited to administer and foster The Sandford Awards.

has administered The Sandford Award successfully for over thirty years, always maintaining the independence and impartiality of the Award, and covering a wide range of historic sites throughout the whole of the British Isles.

maintains and fosters links and partnerships with other heritage sector partners and organisations.

is pro active in the promotion of heritage education initiatives.

offers a consultancy and support service.

embraces inclusive principles.
